Georgetown Traditions: The Band

Although there are various archival references to a "College Band" at Georgetown since the 1820’s, the roots for today’s organization began in 1922 with the formation of a concert and marching band for the University.

Georgetown’s band is small by contemporary standards. Today’s Georgetown band is neither a traditional marching band nor a "scramble band"--that peculiar mix of off-key and off-color performances popular in the Ivy League. Despite the absence of a music program at Georgetown, the band performs regularly at football and basketball games, with its reputation of one of the best of the Big East’s best during basketball season.
