Georgetown Football: 2008 Recruit Profiles

Weight: 250
High School: Garnet Valley
Home Town: Glen Mills, PA

National Ranking: None

One of the measures of success for the next generation of Georgetown Football will be at its offensive line. For a number of years, the o-line has been battered, bruised and, well, undersized.

One of the Hoyas' major line prospects in 2008 has seen it all before. Jon Deardorff will arrive at the Hilltop this summer from a run on one of Pennsylvania's toughest squads, the 13-2 Garnet Valley team that advanced to the AAA finals this past fall. Though only 250 pounds on the line, Deardorff helped lead a Jaguar team that averaged 378 yards a game on the ground. An all-state selection, Deardorff's size may not have drawn much interest from some I-A schools, but given Georgetown's interest in mobile blockers, it was a good fit.

"It's really mostly about technique," Deardorff told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "You are not going to knock everybody over. But if you can position them right, you can block anybody."

Deardorff passed on an offer from West Point, attracting interest from Penn, New Hampshire and Bucknell. At Georgetown, he'll be in consideration for an offensive line that lost three seniors and return only four lineman over 250.

"He's a very nice kid off of the field, but he's a really tough, competitive...hard-nosed player on the field," said Mike Ricci, Deardorff's high school coach. "He knows how to turn it on and compete."
