The 1789 Restaurant (1962)

Georgetown's signature dining experience was built by alumnus Richard McCooey in 1962. The restaurant became a campus institution overnight, along with The Tombs, a restaurant which sits in the basement of "the '89". The Tombs is also home to that unique Georgetown institution known as the Chimes....literally. The group not only performs monthly at the Tombs to standing room crowds, but now maintains a house for its members adjacent to the restaurant.
