Thomas & Dorothy Leavey Center (1988)

The tour turns west past Darnall to the mammoth Leavey Center, built in 1988 to unite the disparate student activities and organizations centered around campus. Leavey serves as the home for student activities, Students of Georgetown, Inc. (the Corp), as well as a fully staffed Marriott conference center and hotel.

Its esplanade area (above) provides recreational space on the top of the building --in the 1980's, this was one of four such "podia" proposed to stretch southward to the Potomac River, with parking below and the roofs serving as substitute green space. This was the only such podium built. (Click on either photo to continue.)
