McDonough Memorial Gymnasium (1951)

Named for the former moderator of athletics from 1916-1939, McDonough Gymnasium (sometimes called "McDonough Arena" in error) is the home of the Department of Athletics as well as the school's basketball and volleyball teams.

Once used for student housing, Student Health, and even a bowling alley, the building is now devoted solely to intercollegiate athletics. The gym's seating capacity has been reduced from 4,400 to 2,200 in recent years, owing to the men's team having moved games off-campus in 1981. Its foyer contains a collection of many athletic trophies awarded to the university over the 135 years of Georgetown athletics.
