Preview

Georgetown's final home game before next week's Battle 4 Atlantis welcomes Robert Morris, a team with eight newcomers on its 14 man roster.

The Colonials overcame a 15 point deficit to win on the road at Bradley on Wednesday, but have lost by 17 to Lafayette and 44 to North Carolina. A ten man rotation will look to the experience of its junior college transfers in this one, where the Colonials are at a decided disadvantage.

The bulk of the scoring from the starting lineup falls on 6-6 senior Lucky Jones, an all-NEC candidate who scored 17 points and six rebounds in the Colonials' win over Bradley. Th remainder of the starting five contributes an average of just 15 points between them, which puts a lot of pressure on the bench to make up the difference. RMU will look to 6-5 swingman Rodney Pryor for support on this front. Pryor scored 26 in the win over Bradley and is the team's best outside scoring threat. Another junior college transfer, 6-5 junior Aaron Tate, will be counted upon for scoring and rebounding help.

The Colonials will look to see if freshman Marcquise Reed can establish some consistency. Reed scored 24 versus North Carolina but was held to five in the Bradley game, and the Landover, MD guard figures to be the guard of the future if he can pick up the scoring load.

Depth is a problem for RMU, so is everything else. The Colonials are shooting only 33 percent from the field, including a woeful 1-10 from its starting center, Stephan Bennett. It maintains a troublesome assist to turnover ratio of 0.48, and is being out-muscled inside by an average of 8.3 rebounds per game. Opponents are averaging nearly 20 assists per game. As such, Georgetown's depth and size are a significant challenge for RMU to stay close in this one, and the Hoyas figure to rotate a number of freshmen and reserves as this one develops.

Some keys to the game:

  • D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera: Some fans have expressed concern that DSR has not scored big in the first two games, but don't be. When the time comes, he'll be there.
  • Rebounds: Look for Georgetown to place a premium on limiting second chance opportunities, which represents RMU's best hope in this game.
  • Fouls: Georgetown is a +22 on free throw attempts, but three players (Josh Smith, Jabril Trawick, and Mikael Hopkins) account for 58% of fouls called.
