HoyaSaxa.com has launched this special page to remind all Georgetown fans of the need to "give the gift of support" via a tax-deductible donation to the Gridiron Club, the official support organization of Georgetown Football.

The roots of the Gridiron Club stretch back to the 1920's, when visionary head coach Lou Little sought to develop an alumni group to raise funds for construction of a 25,000 seat stadium where the baseball field stood. When Little was hired away by Columbia in 1930, plans for the stadium--and the support--went with him. By 1951, with annual losses of $100,000 at the major college level and no annual support program, Georgetown dropped major college football.

The modern Gridiron Club began in 1970 with the development of Hoyas Unlimited. Annual fundraising was limited during the Division III era, but when Georgetown faced the decision to return to Division I football in 1993, the football community responded. When the Patriot League offered Georgetown its affiliation in 2000, the support of the GU football community was essential in making the move. And as Georgetown seeks to elevate itself to the competitive level of Ivy League and Patriot League schools, your annual support is vital.

As if these challenges weren't enough, the Gridiron Club is also hard at work on the drive for an on-campus football facility to debut in less than two years. The athletic development staff is hard at work on efforts to raise over $22 million for a multi-sport facility. It is no understatement that the future of Georgetown football depends on the support of its constituents, and the Gridiron Club is the group entrusted with raising the annual support necessary to continue the 130 year legacy of football at Georgetown.
