Chris Murphy (B'93) was a consensus All-America wide receiver for the Hoyas during his college career. Since 1995, he has served as president of the Georgetown Gridiron Club and served two years as Vice President for Hoyas Unlimited. This is his message from the Summer 2002 Gridiron Club newsletter, available at http://www.guhoyas.com.
Dear Friends of Georgetown Football:
I would like to congratulate all the seniors who are graduating and moving into a new
alumni position with Georgetown football. Your hard work, commitment and dedication
brought us to the Patriot League. Please continue your commitment to the program
as you move into the ranks of the alumni.
As we move into the next generation of Georgetown Football, the needs of the club
are growing. I have asked Skender Derti, (F’99) to join Tom Eacobacci, Rob Sgarlata
and myself in running the club. Skender was a standout player, a team captain and
will be a great asset to the club in fundraising, events, and alumni relations.
I would like to thank all those who continue to support the program. If you have not
made your annual fund gift this year, please do so through Hoyas Unlimited. I also
encourage everyone to visit campus and attend a practice. Your efforts have outfitted
the players and coaches with equipment necessary to compete in the Patriot League;
however we are not there yet. Our main focus and goal is the building of the Multi-
Sport Facility on Harbin Field. The new facility will put us on par with our Patriot
League opponents. This project is essential to the success of the program.
Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for their support of the Joe Eacobacci Memorial
Scholarship. The fund stands at $109,414.49. Joe’s #35 jersey will be retired from
Georgetown Football and an award will be given out each year to the player that best
exemplifies Joe’s spirit for the game. Your support will help keep the memory of a
great son, great brother, great friend and great player alive in Georgetown Football.
I
hope everyone has a happy and safe summer. I look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Sincerely,
Chris Murphy, B’93
